The last of these signals was adopted at an altitude of 580 m. According to calculations by John von Neumann and other mathematicians, if the explosion occurred is much higher, much of the heat energy created by it would be dispersed in the air; in an explosion at a lower altitude, the bomb would have formed a huge crater in the ground. The height of the same, a little less than 600 meters, was perfect. The electrical discharge ignited smokeless powder, thereby creating a semblance of normal shot out of a cannon. Now a small part of the total amount of purified uranium flew on placing a bomb inside the gun barrel. During the initial design of the trunk to be used it is very heavy - the usual trunk from those enjoyed what US Marine artillery. Only a few months later, Oppenheimer and his colleagues realized that the heavy naval guns are made because they have to withstand several times the impact that occurs after each shot. For bombs such strength was, of course, not necessary: ??it "gun" had to make only one shot. As a result, the trunk wasted, after which he was no longer weigh 2270 kg and approximately five times less.
